Implementation of D-ID’s Studio

With GenAI growing rapidly, Pitango’s marketing team identified an opportunity to elevate their quarterly newsletter, The Juice, in a way that would continue showcasing the remarkable achievements of their portfolio companies while also nurturing engagement with their readers. 

To do so, they turned to D-ID, a portfolio company in which they strategically invested in from the seed stage in 2017, knowing that it had a solution that was both revolutionary and practical. Their primary objective was to leverage GenAI to create a dynamic, unique, and engaging newsletter for their 10K+ audience. Sharon Erde, Head of Marketing at Pitango, believes firmly in humanizing brands.  By leveraging the avatar as an engaging spokesperson who embodies Pitango’s ideals and ethos, Pitango brought their alter ego to life in a modern, engaging way while also thinking tactically, as the avatar can be distributed across different platforms. The project began with the ideation of an AI-generated avatar named Sam. Sharon Erde knew exactly what she wanted Sam to look and sound like,  carefully crafting the avatar to be the ultimate alter ego of Pitango. 

The Process of Creating a Branded Avatar

The design phase involved close collaboration with a designer who utilized AI tools to bring Sam to life, aligning closely with the envisioned traits. Once Sam was designed to their liking, the team uploaded her image to D-ID’s Creative Reality™ Studio and let it do its magic, giving Sam a life of her own. The team then took the recording they had created and handed it to a Video Editor to add transitions, subtitles, and background imagery. Sharon noted that while Avatars are indeed engaging, watching an Avatar speak for more than 30 seconds with no other video effects would cause viewer drop-offs. The additional video editing steps played a crucial role in driving the newsletter home.

Audience Reception and Feedback

The introduction of Sam, the new AI newsletter, received overwhelming positive feedback. Internally, the initiative was seen as a testament to Pitango’s commitment to innovation and progressive marketing. Externally, it significantly enhanced engagement, evidenced by a notable spike in newsletter open rates and website traffic, as tracked through Google Analytics.

The feedback highlighted a sense of admiration from recipients, who appreciated the innovative approach and the refreshing format of updates. Challenge

The average person’s email inbox is filled with marketing messages and sales announcements on any given day. For Sales and Marketing professionals, standing out during the festive season can be quite a challenge.

An Experian study showed that emails with personalized subject lines are 26% more likely to be opened than those without and Rich Relevance found that revenue is 5.7 times higher in emails that employ personalization.

With this in mind, in December 2023, D-ID decided to put its technology to the test in a unique Christmas email marketing campaign. We aimed to gauge the impact of personalization in email marketing open and conversion rates by comparing personalized videos against non-personalized ones. The tool we used was our brand-new personalized email marketing integration.

Campaign Overview

D-ID leveraged its cutting-edge AI-generated video technology to create two distinct email campaigns for Christmas. The focus was on providing a personalized experience to Group A while offering a standard message to Group B.

Email Content

Both groups received an email with the subject line “Your Xmas gift is here! 🌟🎄”. The body of the email wished recipients a joyful holiday season. There was one key difference in the video content:

Group A (personalized): Addressed the recipient by their first name and offered 20 Studio credits

Group B (non-personalized): A generic greeting without personalization and offered 20 Studio credits

Campaign Results

Conversion Rate: A significant difference was observed in the conversion rates, with the personalized email achieving a 300% higher rate.

Analysis

The campaign’s success hinged on the power of personalization. By tailoring the video greetings, the campaign was able to establish a deeper connection with the recipients and increase engagement and conversion rates. The use of personalization also helped to create a sense of relevance and importance.

Revolutionizing Media Engagement

Embracing Digital Transformation

Radio Fórmula recognized the need to evolve in the digital age and increase the amount of content on its new video-streaming platform. In Q1 of 2023, the organization decided to answer both challenges with the introduction of digital news presenters, becoming the first news company in Latin America to do so.

Radio Fórmula explored various options in the text-to-video market and found that  D-ID’s Creative Reality™ studio was the best solution, enabling the company to create original characters with the appearance it desired to best match its target audience’s preferences, at the scale and cost they needed to meet their goals.

Introducing Digital Newscasters

Radio Fórmula proceeded to create three AI-generated newscasters, Nat, Sofi, and Max, which are used to deliver daily news flashes and analysis segments. The virtual anchors deliver scripts written by Radio Formula’s team of journalists and producers, augmented with B-roll video and text graphics. In addition to their appearances on the video streaming channel, the segments are repurposed for Radio Formula’s social media accounts.

A secondary use of D-ID’s technology was for employee onboarding and training. Radio Fórmula produced videos featuring digital people to help the HR department introduce new staff members to the channel, its history, and its work practices.

Widespread Acceptance

The immediate impact of this collaboration was a month-on-month increase in viewership. This was especially significant among the younger audience segment who traditionally have stopped consuming news content. Despite some early trepidation around introducing digital people into the company over fears of job displacement and integration challenges, the workforce embraced their new AI colleagues, with developers and producers appreciating the ease with which they were integrated into their workflow and the realization that the overall increase in content lead to higher demand for employees in supporting positions.

Expanding Reach and Exploring New Opportunities

Looking ahead, Radio Fórmula expects to see a further increase in viewer engagement and is optimistic about expanding its reach into new digital platforms, including creating a conversational AI version of the presenters to interact face-to-face with visitors on their digital platforms. Additionally, the company is exploring the possibility of producing similar AI-generated content for interested commercial parties.

The User Acquisition Challenge

Gameloft first approached D-ID with a common challenge – how do we attract more users? The Creative Agency Team (CAT) in Sofia was tasked with developing the marketing strategy for user acquisition (UA) campaigns and they wanted the games to speak for themselves – literally. With the R&D program in CAT Sofia, the team was looking for an easy and creative solution for short-form video ads that would captivate their target audience. In these in-game advertisements, well-known video game characters would promote the game and encourage viewers to download it.

An Efficient and Cost-Friendly Solution

The CAT Team knew that animating characters for these videos would be expensive and time-consuming, especially if they planned on using a variety of scripts for different characters. After researching several solutions, they found the D-ID Studio. While D-ID offers both a studio and an API, Gameloft found the studio best suited to their needs, particularly for its facial animation and text-to-speech capabilities. They seamlessly integrated D-ID technology into their existing workflow by uploading static images to the Studio, generating speaking portrait videos, and then creating the final promo using traditional video editing software.

Volume and Results

Gameloft’s UA campaigns are primarily hosted on platforms like Facebook, Google Ads, and occasionally YouTube. Incorporating D-ID elements into their videos has consistently yielded exceptional results. With more than 20 creative concepts and sometimes over 50 iterations, Gameloft can now create UA and marketing videos in far larger volumes than before. These videos not only attract new users but also effectively communicate game updates and will soon be integrated into the games themselves. Gameloft’s dedication to excellence is evident in its iterative approach. They continuously refine their videos by altering one element at a time to identify which changes resonate most with users. This meticulous process involves testing various elements, such as call-to-action (CTA) button colors, to optimize user engagement. With each iteration, the CAT team learns more about their users and how to best communicate with them.

Team and Customer Satisfaction

The CAT team finds D-ID’s platform intuitive and user-friendly. They credit the cost reduction as a big reason for using the platform, but they also appreciate that the studio makes video editing easy, thereby reducing the time-to-market. The team used to spend hours writing scripts and looking for the right voice actors, which was costly and labor-intensive. With the pre-loaded voices in the Studio, they simply upload a ready-made script and press generate – a process that takes 3-4 minutes in total.

The response from customers is impressive as well. The new D-ID-generated videos are performing exceptionally well, and the team hopes to expand into other games and characters.
